Hooked on Heroes, the non-profit organization that takes veterans fishing, held its first fishing tournament to help raise funds for the organization, recently. It was a huge success.

Held in Steinhatchee at the Sea Hag Marina, they had 70 entrants all wanting to help the organization raise money to take veterans fishing and hoping to catch the big trophy fish that would reel in some of the prize money, totaling $3400.

“The tournament went fantastic. The people that came were helpful. They went along with all our rules and regulations. No one complained about anything, so I was real satisfied with the way it went,” commented Hooked on Heroes founder Ron Cadle. “We appreciate our sponsors, the boaters, the volunteers and everyone who came out and helped with the tournament.”
The event went so well, they are already making preparations for one next year.

Below are the results from the tournament!

Redfish:
1st Place $1000 – Leslie Hernandez 7.55lbs
2nd Place $500 – Collin English 7.51lbs
3rd Place $200 – Jeff Taylor 6.84lbs

Trout:
1st Place $1000 – Ron Higdon 3.13lbs
2nd Place $500 – Matt Brooks 3.11lbs
3rd Place $200 – Julie Hause 2.64lbs
Jr. Angler – (12 & under)
Otis Bass, black drum, 2.64lbs

The next fishing trip to take the veterans fishing, at no cost to them, of course, is scheduled for October 2, 2021, in Steinhatchee at the Sea Hag Marina. They are in need of captains with boats to help take groups out on the water. Other welcomed donations are tackle, hand towels, cooling rags, water, snacks, life jackets, clip on umbrellas, sunscreen, etc.
Folks can expect Sheriff Sam St. John, along with his volunteers, to be there in October serving their chicken and rice dinners for the veterans as well.
