Sharon Jordan Seeks Re-Election
Staff Reports
Suwannee County Tax Collector Sharon Jordan announced she is seeking re-election in a press release last week.
Jordan said, “I have proudly served the citizens of Suwannee County in the Tax Collector’s office for 45 years with 16 of those years serving as ‘Your Tax Collector’.
When I first ran for office, I did so with an earnest desire to serve the people of Suwannee County with superior customer service. Part of that earnestness was to ensure our staff is highly trained in all areas of our office to ensure efficiency, proficiency, and capability in efforts to meet all of your service needs.
Since being sworn into office in 2009, I have increased the number of personnel to include a receptionist to ensure your phone call is always answered by a live person during business hours, restructured our office website making it mobile friendly, ADA compliant and up-to-date.
I have advanced our office by providing concealed weapon license application services, birth certificates, HAZMAT endorsed CDL’s, and initiating the acceptance of e-checks as an alternative form of payment for online tax payments. Most recently, a queuing kiosk was installed to better manage customer flow. In addition, the hours at our Live Oak and Branford offices were extended and a Branch office opened in Dowling Park.
While serving as your Tax Collector, on the state level, I was selected to serve as the President of the Florida Tax Collectors Association (FTCA) in 2017, the highest honor; presently serve as the District 3 Director on the FTCA Board and the FTCA liaison for the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services. These opportunities have helped me develop and mature as a senior Tax Collector and leader in our community and state to better serve you, the tax payer.
My diverse staff and I are committed to providing the utmost quality of service the citizens of Suwannee County deserve, while also meeting the challenges of federal, state, and local regulations. We provide many online services and payment options so that taxpayers can pay in person, online, by mail, or use the drop box.
I have operated this office in a fiscally responsible manner ensuring every dollar collected is distributed to the county, schools, city and state governments, per Florida Statute. I am proud to say this office has received excellent audit results annually from both county and state agency auditors.
My goals then and still are: Efficient and Personalized Service, Accountability and Accuracy, Expanded Services, Engaged and Highly Trained Staff, and Capitalizing on Advanced Technology.
Immediate Future Goals: A larger office to better serve the citizens of Suwannee County and accommodate our lobby traffic. I have been and will continue to engage in discussions with leaders expressing and advocating our need for more office space, as this need is critical due to the growth Suwannee County is experiencing.
Please note, I have always and will continue to have an open-door policy.
Thank you to the citizens of Suwannee County for the opportunity to serve as your Tax Collector, and thank you for your support as I seek to continue serving you as your Suwannee County Tax Collector. Please feel free to contact me at
