Submitted by Alden Rosner Sports Marketing Director

Lake City, Fla., – The Southside Sports Complex in Lake City will play host to

the Cal Ripken 11-Under Baseball Southeast Regional Tournament from July 12-16. The tournament is the penultimate event in the Cal Ripken World Series tournament trail. Winners of the event will be invited to the Cal Ripken World Series tournament, scheduled for July 28 through August 6 in Ocala.

The regional tournament will feature more than a dozen state champions from across the Southeast. Teams will be traveling from Georgia, Eastern North Carolina, Western North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia.

According to Alden Rosner, Sports Marketing Director for the Columbia County Sports Commission, “This tournament, outside of the Cal Ripken World Series, is one of the premier events the Babe Ruth organization will host. The best 11-under teams from across the most baseball-competitive region in the country plus coaches, parents, friends and relatives will be drawn to Lake City for five days of great youth baseball. This event is a great way to show all the fantastic things Lake City and Columbia County have to offer, as well as to share our first rate facilities with young athletes from across the region.”

Cal Ripken Baseball is a division of Babe Ruth Baseball, Inc. and was originally organized in 1984. The Cal Ripken division is intended for players four to 12 years of age.

According to baberuthleague.org, “The Babe Ruth League, Inc. programs above all, are of, by and for youth. Its mission is to make better citizens through proper supervision of regulation competitive baseball and softball in addition to promoting mental and physical development. In adopting rules, in establishing standards and in all planning, the primary consideration is what is best for the participants.”

The Southside Sports Complex is located at 1963 SW Bascom Norris Drive in Lake City.
