In Memory of

Anita Whitmore Brown

Anita Whitmore Brown passed away on January 7, 2022 in Tallahassee, Florida at the age of 92. Mrs. Brown’s life was a celebration of the human spirit.


Mrs. Brown was born in Winter Park, Florida to Albra Hiram Whitmore and Florence Anita Edris Whitmore on July 8, 1929. She attended Rollins College, Stetson University, and graduated from the University of Florida. Mrs. Brown married Eadward M Brown in Gainesville, Florida where she bore their first child, Catherine. Her sons, Arthur and Thomas, were born in Fort Myers, Florida.


Mrs. Brown was a schoolteacher, cattle farmer, avid volunteer, mother, and wife. She lived in Winter Park, Fort Myers, Alva, Live Oak, Lake City, and Tallahassee. Through her life, Mrs. Brown was active in 4-H, the Florida Cattleman’s Association, Florida Angus Association (of which she was the first woman director to serve on the board), the Daughters of the American Revolution, Colonial Dames, and the Society of Mayflower Descendants. She was a supporter of the Arts and Natural History throughout her life. Ms. Brown was a member and active supporter of the Florida Museum of Natural History at the University of Florida.


Mrs. Brown is pre-deceased by her husband Eadward; brothers Charles and Theodore; sisters Lois and Dorothy; daughter Catherine, Son Arthur, son-in-law William, II; and grandson William, III.


Mrs. Brown is survived by her son Thomas; granddaughters Mary Catherine, Muireall, and Ceana; her granddaughter-in-law Sarah; her great-grandson Arlo, and her great-granddaughters Catherine (Katie) and Catherine (Lit’l Cat).


A grave-side service was held at 2:30 PM, Friday, January, 14, 2022 at Forest Meadows Cemetery, 3700 Southeast Hawthorne Road, Gainesville, Florida. Todd Wahlquist with Bevis Funeral Home (850-385-2193, www.bevisfh.com) assisted the Brown family with their arrangements.
