Aviation enthusiasts, car enthusiasts, history buffs and event goers are invited to set their calendars for the Cross City Airport Fly-In, Cruise-In & Business Expo at Cross City Airport that is coming to Dixie County once again, Saturday, April 24, 2021, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event normally draws around three thousand visitors.
Sponsored by the Dixie County Chamber of Commerce, this year is especially noteworthy because it ties in with Dixie County’s 100th Anniversary. They will be celebrating the county’s rich history on April 23 and 24, beginning with a Centennial Parade and time capsule at 3 p.m., on the 23rd. The parade will begin at the old high school, down Highway 19, then north to the courthouse and city park for a brief ceremony. On Saturday, April 24, from 10 to 3, history exhibits from the Trail Riders Club will be at the entrance to the Cross City Airport Fly-In. David Osteen and his team will be in the kitchen frying up fresh mullet.
Among the featured plane & helicopter rides, military displays, aircraft demos, radio controlled (RC) aircraft, pilot games, kids games, car show and the many arts, craft and food vendors, they will also offer, once again, a 10 minute ride in a Vietnam era UH-1H Huey helicopter, compliments of Friends Of Army Aviation.
“A veteran’s group brings (the Huey) from Ozark, Alabama and is a doors open combat style yaaahoo ride people love!” Said Dixie County Volunteer Dana Sheffield. He added, “Covid may limit some things but we’re doing all we can and are hoping things keep improving.”
They also offer a $1000 aviation scholarship to a high school senior and have career information available from businesses and organizations with representatives on hand to answer questions.
The Cross City Airport is located at 508 NE 241 Street in Cross City, Florida. For more information call 352-498-6656 or email
