Staff Reports

Whether tracking a fleeing suspect or searching for a missing child or vulnerable adult, Florida Department of Corrections K9 Teams provide selfless service to Florida communities. Recently the K9 Team at Walton CI completed a mile-long track in dense woods in the panhandle, resulting in the capture and arrest of a home burglary suspect. Meanwhile, a few hundred miles east, K9 teams from Taylor and Cross City CIs joined local law enforcement to track and capture a sexual predator fleeing deputies. Outside Orlando, the Central Florida Reception Center K9 Team provided assistance to local agencies by tracking a murder suspect who was caught while swimming across a pond to evade apprehension. Later the same week, the South Florida Reception Center’s K9 Team swiftly located a missing juvenile and an escaped federal detainee during two separate activations near Miami.
