Florida Department of Health Issues Daily Update on COVID-19

~Fifth straight day below 10 percent positivity of new cases, number of COVID-19 positive patients currently hospitalized down nearly 40 percent since July 21~ 

TALLAHASSEE — The Florida Department of Health (DOH), in order to provide more comprehensive data, releases a report on COVID-19 cases in Florida once per day. Today, Florida had the fifth straight day below 10 percent positivity of new cases.

Today, as reported at 11 a.m., there are 2,678 new positive COVID-19 cases and 89 reported deaths - 2 occurred yesterday, August 16. As posted on the Agency for Health Care Administration’s hospitalization dashboard at 2 p.m., there are 5,654 current hospitalizations with a primary diagnosis of COVID-19, this number is down nearly 40 percent since July 21.

Test results for more than 39,100 individuals were reported to DOH as of midnight, on Sunday, August 16. On August 16, 8.25 percent of new cases** tested positive.

To date, there are a total of 576,094 Florida cases*** with 9,539 deaths related to COVID-19.

Since August 16, the death of eighty-nine Florida residents who tested positive for COVID-19 have been reported in Alachua, Broward, Charlotte, Collier, Dade, Hillsborough, Jackson, Lake, Marion, Palm Beach, Pasco, Pinellas, Polk and St. Johns counties.

  • To date, 4,022 individuals that were staff or residents of a long-term care facility have died.
