LCPD: Attending Religious Services
There appears to be some confusion about the Governor’s Executive Order (EO) 20-91 and City Ordinance #2020-2146 and its application within the City of Lake City as it relates to “attending religious services conducted in churches, synagogues and houses of worship”.
To clarify, nothing in EO 20-91 or City Ordinance #2020-2146 prohibits gathering by religious groups in churches, synagogues, and houses of worship.
EO 20-91 Section 2, Subsection B states, “Essential services also include those businesses and activities designated by Executive Order 20-89 and its attachments which consists of a list propounded by Miami-Dade County in multiple orders,” which includes religious services.
“This order does not limit the number of persons who may be physically present at any religious service. Persons attending religious services are urged, but are not required, to practice social distancing, such as keeping six feet between persons and limiting group size to less than ten people” (Miami-Dade County Emergency Order 07-20).
It is a top priority that our community stays safe and works toward minimizing the spread of COVID-19. LCPD recommends everyone practice the social distancing guidelines recommended by the Center for Disease Control for the duration of this public health crisis.
